We are a military family and love using the phone for communication! When Dad is gone on trips or deployments, it’s so nice to be able to open up Christmas presents via FaceTime. At the same time, I find myself some days leaning on screens as a distraction to help get things done. It’s really challenged me to figure out other ways to help our toddler cope. For example, instead of watching videos of Dad every single evening before bed or naptime, we made a photo album and read a deployment book. Or if I find myself wanting to put him in front of a movie to cook dinner- I try to incorporate him by helping me. It’s been such an interesting transition for us!
We are striving towards cutting out as much screen time as we can in order to treasure the family time we are able to have together. We do have a tradition of watching a movie once a week on Friday nights! We really look forward to it- we cook dinner together, make popcorn and snuggle on an air mattress/blanket fort.

anonymousParticipantI made a snack mix yesterday and little man had fun sorting and counting for our math activity. It wasn’t the healthiest likely…Rice Chex, Bugles, pretzels, Cheeze-its, and cashews with an all natural ranch seasoning blend. So good!
anonymousParticipantI hope the surprise box worked! Sounds fun!
anonymousParticipantCrimetown!
anonymousParticipantI love the busy box idea! I have my three year old “do work” with me. She has workbooks that she can do alongside me when I’m doing computer work.
anonymousParticipantHello everyone! I am in the Middle Georgia area. I hope to find others nearby soon!
anonymousParticipantThe Simplicity Parenting book by Kim John Payne was a wonderful book about how to simplify life and area they focus on is toys and books! It’s a very inspiring resource.
I love to set my timer for 15 minutes and dig into something that needs decluttering. Then it doesn’t feel like the task robs me of my whole morning or afternoon. It’s amazing how much can get done in a nice focused time allotment.anonymousParticipantI enjoyed reading Simplicty Parenting by Kim John Payne. So good to receive affirmations to decluttering toys and not having it all!

anonymousParticipantAfter we put the kids down for bed, my husband and I take the next 30-45 minutes cleaning the kitchen and putting toys away. It makes all the difference for me to wake up to a clean-ish home!
Also, we have a bunch of toys in our home and I recently bought a couple of 2×1 cubicles from Target, laid them on their long side, and put a couple of cushions on top to act as a little reading nook/storage bin. We still have a few big toys out, but I love that it hides most of the clutter! -
