I swear by a busy box for my 4-year-old. If she finishes an activity early and I need to hop on a conference call, I break it out to keep her occupied for at least 15 minutes! I usually keep stickers, books or fun craft supplies she doesn’t always get to have access to during the week. :)

I love the busy box idea! I have my three year old “do work” with me. She has workbooks that she can do alongside me when I’m doing computer work.

We had to take the busy box idea out of the box and set up small stations that my 4 year old could “discover” and engage in independently while I was on phone calls for work from home. My prep, instruction, and encouragement helped, but wasn’t entirely perfect. He still had times where, although it appeared he wanted attention, he was actually seeking relationship. We did our best, and will continue to discuss for the next times I will need this kind of system.
