My kids love to read/do The Barnyard Dance especially when they need to get some wiggles out.
Also The Big Red Barn is a fav.

Sprouted Kitchen breakfast cookies are always a hit around here. Banana with almond butter and chocolate chips. Popcorn once the kids are old enough. Baby carrots and apples with cinnamon. “baby oranges” they can peel themselves. My kids love a cup of tea and helping me make it. Oatmeal banana muffins.

We almost only use the laptop to look up videos when it will enhance something in the real world. So, learning that hot air balloons (as seen in a Dr. Seuss book) are a real thing. Or, my toddler loves clocks, so we watch a lot of clock enthusiast/clock repair videos.

Sam loved collecting and cutting leaves but our art turned into drawing THROUGH the leaves and then leaf rubbing – LOL! (Leaf rubbing is a great alternative to drawing the symmetrical side of the leaf. You can put the cut side under the paper in line with the not cut side and make the leaf whole again by rubbing!) We also learned that sedum leaves are gooey inside and if you stick an eraser in one you’ll smear green all over the paper wherever you use the eraser! 😃

Also, if it’s from our garden to my kids’ plates – BIG WIN!

This is a little extreme but.. we reorganized our living room so the TV is no longer in there at all! The couches face the fireplace and there is a huge + pretty bookshelf with a speaker system for music and a coffee table. Maybe if you’re not into rearranging everything you could “hide” it while little guy is awake until he forgets about it? My toddler has completely forgotten to ask to watch anything.

I am currently weaning my toddler away from screen time. I was really sick during my last pregnancy so we rested and watched lots of shows. It has now carried over, now that we have a newborn, especially when I’m nursing. This week we have staring cutting back drastically but not where we want to be. Any tips?

We fall into too much screen time when our preschooler is sick. As soon as he’s well, it helps to get him outside, especially if we can get to a park or a forest preserve, away from our immediate yard. If the weather is inclement, maybe a fast food joint with an indoor play place, or a grocery store that has good samples.

Changing his environment seems to jolt him out of, “But this is ALWAYS the time of day when I watch a movie!” (when “always” really means “for the past 4 days while I ran fever” but time doesn’t have a lot of meaning to him right now)
