I looooooove my morning routine! Twice a week I coach in my garage (CrossFit style workouts), while for the other 5 mornings, I wake up around 5-5:30, make a cup of tea and relax in the peace and quiet. I journal out Gratitude, Surrenders, Affirmations, and Mantras for the current season. I take a look at my weekly plan and things I’d like to accomplish (including sorting out where to fit in some Other Goose time!), and if my kids are still sleeping after all this I listen to an audiobook (currently listening to Peaceful Parents, Happy Kids) or a podcast. It isn’t always easy getting out of bed, but it’s just so worth it and I find it sets my mindset for the day. In such an incredible way!!!

The Minimalish Podcast for sure! Also a Simple Families and Sage Parenting podcasts listener. For my kids, we love WOW In The World and Brains On! I also love Unruffled with Janet Lansbury. Soooo good for respectful parenting! The Mindful Kind is a great one for a quick reminder of the importance of mindfulness. Episodes are like 11 minutes. So great!

Ok so Sir Mix-a-Face was fun, but when my 8yo chimed in, it went beyond fun. They started making wide faces, extra long faces, mixed up faces! But a fun adaptation was when I blindfolded them, had them choose facial features (without peeking!), and then arrange their faces before removing the blindfold. Upside down eyes and noses on chins, we took the fun of this activity to the next level!

    Green bean “french fries!”

I use 2 bags of frozen french-style green beans.
I turn the oven up to 425* and get out a sheet pan or a pyrex or two (one if I have more time, two if I want them done quickly).

Toss the green beans onto the sheet pan/Pyrex and give a glug or two of avocado oil, sprinkle generously with salt and garlic powder. Cook in the oven for 45-60 minutes, tossing every 20 minutes or so until green beans are crunchy like french fries!

    My kids LOVE these! Enjoy!

Caroline, we’re in Oxford, but my husband and I lived in Starkville for a few years. In fact, our oldest was born there!

    Hi Caroline, Welcome! :)
I am also a mother to two boys, Elijah (4 but recently turned 5 year old) and Ezekiel (almost 2-year-old). I am also a SAHM but currently going to school full time online too. I fully believe God directs our steps! We are originally from a major city in TX but relocated to a small town several years ago and it is exactly where we needed to be. We love the library, park, walking trails, local coffee shops, and farmers market! My son is not in an “official grade” yet because he didn’t turn 5 until after the first day of school. I’ve never called what we do homeschooling, I guess I would say we do “at home learning” or “otherschooling”. My oldest actually does pre-k just two days a week for a few hours so I can try to study with just our youngest. But I love other goose for intentional connecting and learning with my boys at home! We havent fully decided what to do about kindergarten yet either so we are just testing the waters right now also :)

Hello! I am Erin – wife to an agriculture man and mom to a 4-yr-old boy and 2-yr-old girl. We live in Arkansas and, luckily, I know a few people here who home-school, but none that use Other Goose yet.

We don’t home-school at this age, but it’s something we consider for next year. At the moment, our son attends a private pre-school two days per week just to help him out of a pretty hardcore shell. He’s dealt with anxiety since birth, specifically social and detachment, so pre-school has proved to be a huge blessing for him and us. He is a different kid after just one year of preschool, and I credit most of that to the wonderful school we found. All the same, home-school is still a very real possibility as he begins kindergarten next year and our youngest will be old enough for preschool.

In the meantime, Other Goose is such a fun way for us to try new things on the days when we’re all home together. It feels like a good trial run for home-school. Is anyone else debating which way to educate your children or do you use a mix of things?

Television is one of the reasons we’ve joined Other Goose. We live in a small apartment with no real outdoor space to play. We didn’t plan to raise our children here, but until we get a house… Here we are. Although we often spend time outdoors, winter here is way too wet and miserable to do much outside and there are plenty of hours in any day when we’re not riding bicycles or swimming or taking nature walks. It’s just plain difficult to find healthy, interesting distractions for any of us on regular basis without leaving home or buying new toys that don’t last two hours. Plus, we’ve noticed that television (even kid-friendly, educational shows) definitely seems to create the worst attitudes in our littles (ages 2 and 4.) So, hello, Other Goose! We’re spending this season learning new ways to entertain ourselves and spend more quality time together right here on the living room floor or in the kitchen or wherever.

I just needed to come on here to say how much I enjoy and need to hear the words in the Parents Extra Credit sometimes. “Yet!” How one word can be so powerful, it’s magical! Thank you, thank you for YET another wonderful suggestion. :)

My three year old is obsessed with all Fancy Nancy books. I think they’re cute but I’m also ready for some new books :).
