So many great ideas here! Going to try those dinosaur muffins!
We love to add all sorts of things into smoothies which totally disguises something like spinach. Sometimes we purée or chop veggies really, really small and stir them into pasta sauces.
Sprouted Kitchen blog has LOTS of ideas on this and she has an e-cookbook called Little Sprouts that we’ve used some recipes from.
I’ve also found that if my girls help make the meal then they are more likely to eat it, regardless of what it is. I think it’s a pride in their work thing. We recently discovered Raddish Kids and are LOVING it.
anonymousParticipantI made a new one! To the tune of Jingle Bells….
Jingle Bells, Sammy yells, “Come on, let’s go and play!”
With hats on heads, we grab our sleds, and ride the hills all day hey!
Jingle Bells, Sammy yells, “Let’s go and have some fun!”
We make some tracks, and eat some snacks, while singing to the sun!anonymousParticipantPeoria, Illinois representing :)
anonymousParticipantWe are in Canada. Windsor, Ontario to be exact. :)
anonymousParticipantYes, I missed it too and have been trying to find it!
anonymousParticipantDestin, Florida, here! But grew up in Fort Payne, Alabama. I’ve got a 3 year old daughter and a 9-month old son. I work 4 days a week (2 full days, 2 short days), so I try to fit in the lessons with my daughter in the evenings or on the weekends. She goes to preschool a few days a week and stays with my sitter a couple days a week, but I love using Other Goose to provide some activities we can do together in our downtime. I’d love to homeschool but I’m not sure how it would work logistically with both parents working outside the home.
anonymousParticipantI 100% agree. Even if a week goes by and I do nothing but connect with my kiddos, I feel supported by Other Goose. Plus I love how the lesson prompts almost always involve things you have around the house, so a lesson can be quick and easy to pull out of your hat when you’re blessed with an unexpected window to calm!! :D
anonymousParticipanthere’s a running list I keep of all of our favorites (read: daughter asks for by name 1000000 times)
anonymousParticipantWe are Montana as well. 3 kids and a dog.
anonymousParticipantI have worked hard to declutter and have adopted a “one in, one out” rule. If I want to bring in a new spatula, mug, sweater, etc – then an existing one leaves my home. This is true for all things except books lol
I second Outer Order, Inner Calm! Loved that book! I also love the Minimal-ish podcast. It reminds you to give yourself grace, and talks a lot about realistic minimalism – with kids!! :) Highly recommend!
anonymousParticipantomgoodness @Jenn that sounds amazing!!! and well thought out too! I love experiences like that.
I’m trying to figure out parameters around Santa and gift giving with my eldest who will be 4 in April. We also celebrate Hanukkah as my husband is Jewish and overall it’s just a lot of stuff. I’d like to transition folks into the feeling of not having to gift my children STUFF. All suggestions welcome! :)
anonymousParticipantWhining is so tough! We also use the “I’m sorry I can’t understand you when you speak like that.” line and it usually gets them to at least say it without whining. If they want something and are whining “I want more milk” I’ll say, “Hmm, that’s a statement, not a request. If you’d like help with your milk problem, I’d try making a polite request and see what happens.” Now that it’s not a habit, I think they just have to try it out every once in a while to see if it’ll get them what they want more quickly!
anonymousParticipantJenn! What a fun idea, thanks for sharing.
This one is a favorite of mine (so easy) and the kids absolutely gobbled it up!
anonymousParticipantMay I ask how you handle whining? Im very irritated by this attitude and I almost instantly snap which I regret afterwards 😭
anonymousParticipantFavorite Audiobooks:
Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey — a short ten minutes on audio, but by far our favorite.
The Collected Stories of Winnie the Pooh — a full cast dramatization of Winnie-the-Pooh and House At the Corner by A.A. Milne.
