I just say “could you try again in your usual voice? I want to understand you.” I may need to say it two or three times once in a while, but I’ve found that staying totally calm and waiting to hear them out reduces whining over time. It comes up mostly when they feel unheard, in my opinion, but can certainly become more of a habit when it isnt addressed specifically.

I was just given Essio trot, which I had never read. An unusual story for those who want longer books or are starting to read themselves.

Some from our shelves: bear says thanks, too many carrots (I consider this a gratitude teaching in that it shows the difference between valuing things over friends), oh what a wonderful world.

Our go to drink vessels around here are pura stainless insulated. Weve used the same 3 for almost 4 years, from formula through a nipple, the sippy spouts, the straws, and finally the pour spout. I even use them myself. At home we also love duralex for toddler sized glassware that won’t shatter every time it falls. And lately I picked up two toddler cups from Eastfork, and we are all obsessed. They’ll hold toddler amounts of anything, shots of tequila, espresso, or hot tea.

I will second the Bear Snores On series. I think we have 5 different ones now. Another one we read often is Hug Machine. And a seasonal one right now but read all year is Room on the Broom. We love Llamaphones as well. And Jabberwocky, from the little lit series that does many classic books used as themes for board books. One that is not technically a board book but introduced nath with very few words is Stack the Cats. And that reminds me of another favorite, None the Number.
